SHAWANO, WI- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is reminding ice anglers to remove their permanent ice shanties from certain waterways in the coming weeks. Ice conditions are deteriorating, making the removal of shanties increasingly difficult and hazardous. The DNR mandates that permanent shanties on Lake Michigan, Green Bay, Lake Superior, and inland waters north of Highway 64 must be removed by March 16. On Shawano Lake, local DNR officials say the deadline has already passed and ice shacks should already be off. Failure to meet the removal deadline can result in fines starting at approximately $200.
