SHAWANO, WI- Shawano County officials are urging state transportation authorities to address safety concerns at three key highway intersections following a recent spike in crashes.
During a Jan. 28 meeting of the Shawano County Highway Safety Commission, members highlighted issues at the following locations:
- State Highway 22 (South Main Street) and County Road B near ThedaCare
- State Highway 47/55 (Airport Drive) and County Road B
- State Highway 29 and River Road, between Bonduel and Doc’s Harley-Davidson
Sheriff George Lenzner emphasized the urgency of improvements at the River Road intersection, citing its high crash frequency.
Discussions about the intersection near ThedaCare focused on congestion and overall functionality, while concerns at the Highway 47/55 and County Road B intersection centered on safety and crash history.
Lenzner and and County Highway Commissioner Grant Bystol plan to submit a formal letter to the DOT outlining their concerns and advocating for timely action.
