It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lynette Marie Wychesit – Turney, “Maehkuanaeniahkiw” of the Eagle Clan, on Saturday evening, October 12, 2024. Lynette, age 62, passed away peacefully in Shawano, Wisconsin surrounded by countless loved ones after a courageous health journey. Lynette was a BRAVE lady who never complained and practiced resiliency during the toughest moments of her life; she lived up to her Menominee name, “Brave Red Woman of the Sky.”Lynette was born in Shawano, Wisconsin on February 16, 1962, to parents Marie T. Wilber and Henry “Hank” Wychesit. After Lynette graduated from the Menominee Indian High School in year 1980, Lynette was fortunate enough to attend the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1982. She went on to study Business Administration at Fox Valley Technical College and then at Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wisconsin where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree. She held various positions throughout her career with the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin. Lynette lived a life of tremendous creative flair. She had a keen eye for detail and her artistic capability led to several business endeavors. She was a resourceful gal as she was active in sales with Avon, Pampered Chef, Jafra, and Home Interiors. Lynette was an entrepreneur as she also owned her own beading and craft business, in addition to being a Co-Owner of Wapos Graphics. She will always be remembered for her strong will and her sweet tooth. She enjoyed sewing, beading, socializing, shopping, and staying active.
Lynette is survived by her husband, David Turney, Sr.; her children, Katrina (Andre James) Wychesit and Sienna (Cody McLester) Wapos; her step-children, David Turney, Jr., Dawn Turney, and Deandra (Jerry) Turney; her grandchildren, Jordan Delabrue, Adelyn McLester, Francis “Fuddy Buddy” Dodge, Charles James, Jr., Schuyler Webster, Sophia Holstrom, Isabella Zayas, and Gabriella Alfaro; her Godmother, Nell-Lee Hawpetoss – Tiedeman; her siblings, Allen (Pam) Wilber, Warren Wilber Sr., Gerhardt (Rogerine) Wychesit, Tina Frechette, Renita (Roger) Corn, Richard (Juanita) Wilber, and Daryl Wilber; her sister-in-law, Dawn “Bell” Wilber; her godchildren, Myrna Peters and Ryan Fish, Jr.; her best friends, Lisa Dickenson, Doris Pyawasit, Lydia Garcia, Debra Corn, Carmen Castro – Garza, Tina Castro – Koehn, Ronna Guzman, Cecilia Lyons and Becky Madosh; honorable mentions: Leon “Shorty” Wychesit, Amy Jones, Candy Leaman, Pershing “Sport” Frechette, Mequan Corn, Sr., Shay Sanapaw, Vanita “Vanny”Wheelock, Lisa Vega, Richard “Breezy” Brzezinski, and Lois Grignon; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and MANY friends.
Lynette was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, Lois; her sisters, Loretta Lawrence, Joylyn Whitney, Cherylene Wilber; her brothers, Henry Wychesit Jr., Leon “Baldy” Wychesit, Elmer Wilber; and lifelong friends whom she missed dearly, Ricky Lyons, Lori Long, and Gloria Summers.
Funeral services are under the direction of Mickelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc. of Shawano, Wisconsin. A private family viewing will begin on Monday, October 14, 2024, at 6:00 P.M. at N638 State Road 47, Keshena, Wisconsin. A public viewing will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. up until the time of traditional services on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. with the final viewing at 12:00 P.M. Lynette’s final resting place will be at Menominee Nation Cemetery in Middle Village, Wisconsin on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 2:00 P.M.
