Luther M. Kortbein, age 63 of Cecil, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday morning, October 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Luther was born in Clintonville, WI on June 6, 1961, a son of the late David and Marion (Schmidt) Kortbein. He attended St. Martin Lutheran Grade School and Clintonville High School, graduating with the Class of 1979. Luther went to the Black Hawk Institute in Michigan to study aviation mechanics. Following graduation, he worked as an aircraft mechanic. For the majority of his career, he worked at Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee. Luther was currently employed by Endeavor Airlines. On October 30, 2003, Luther was united in marriage to the former Sondra Raffauf in Danville, IN. Following their marriage the couple lived in Indianapolis for a year before returning to Wisconsin in 2005. His hobbies included flying, boating, polka music, and being around his beloved dogs. Luther was an advocate for rescue dogs. He also loved being a stepfather and grandpa.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sondra, of Cecil; his stepchildren, Joseph (Kristin) Hudson of Danville, IN, and Rachel (Greg Baker) Thomas of Indianapolis, IN; six grandchildren; his sisters, Marjorie Rohloff of Shawano, and Margaret (Sean) Kane of Green Bay; his brother, David (Barb) Kortbein of New London; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service for Luther will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11:00 am at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Chaplain Ted Tromble will officiate. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 10:00 am and continue until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests memorials be made to the Shawano County Humane Society in Luther’s name.
