Wayne Marlow Martin, age 86, of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at The Pines in Embarrass, Wisconsin. Wayne was born in the Town of Red Springs on September 18, 1938, to the late Edwin and Margaret (Welch) Martin. On December 19, 1959, Wayne was united in marriage to Janet Richmond at Immanuel Mohican Lutheran Church in Gresham. Wayne worked as an iron worker and was a proud member of the Local 8 in Milwaukee. Projects he worked on included the US Bank (First Wisconsin) building in Milwaukee, the first renovation of Lambeau Field, and the Oneida “Turtle School” where he worked with an all-native crew. He also worked on several paper mills throughout the Fox Valley. Over the years he worked for Reinke and Schomann, CSE, Azco, and the Boldt Company among others. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his Harley’s. He was a hard worker and always kept busy cutting firewood and cleaning up the yard. Wayne had a creative mind and was always working on interesting and innovative projects. He loved horses, being around them always brought back fond memories from his childhood. Wayne was devout Christian and a member of the Lutheran Church of the Wilderness. He was a devoted husband and father and will be deeply missed.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Barbara (Nuri) Elgutaa of Arizona, Marlow Martin of Bowler, Darwin Martin of Shawano, Dana Martin of California, and Carrie Martin of Arizona; seven grandchildren, Dallas Tucker, Ryan Elgutaa, Jenelle (Eric) Schroeder, Jesse Martin, Vanessa DeNasha, Angela Martin, and Michaela Martin; numerous great-grandchildren; one great great grandson and siblings, Audrey Frank of Shawano, Vicki (Dr. Richard) Dalve of Bowler; and John Martin of Bowler. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Wayne is preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Lynn; siblings, Ronald Martin, Waldo “Buck” Martin and Peggy Drephal; his parents, Edwin and Margaret; and his father in law and mother in law, Calvin and Janette Richmond.
A funeral service for Wayne will be held at 11:00am on Monday September 30, 2024, at the Lutheran Church of the Wilderness in Bowler with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held at The Woodland Supper Club and Banquet Hall, 420 Main Street in Gresham, WI 54128 on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and then again at the church on Monday from 9:30 am until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Stockbridge Indian Burial Grounds.
