Dorothy H. Arndt, age 97, of Marion was called home to her Savior on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, at her home.
Dorothy Helen Breed was born on May 16, 1927 in the Town of Matteson, Waupaca County, Wisconsin to George and Helen (Duehring) Breed. She had one older sister, Luverne. Dorothy was received into fellowship with the Triune God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at her parents’ home in Embarrass, by Rev. Walter List on May 20, 1927. She publicly testified to her faith and was confirmed at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville by Rev. Walter Speckhard on March 17, 1940. Dorothy grew up in Embarrass and attended grades 1-3 and 9 at Embarrass, grades 4-8 at St. Martin Lutheran School in Clintonville and three years at Clintonville High School where she graduated on May 21, 1944. During her senior year she started working at the Dairyman’s State Bank and became a full time employee after graduation.
Dorothy met her future husband, Elmer, at her mother’s home for roomers and boarders. Elmer, who had just come home from serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a boarder there while working at the Atlas Conveyor, Clintonville. They were joined in holy matrimony on December 28, 1946 at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville. They were married for 64 years until Elmer’s passing on March 2, 2011. Their union was blessed with five children, Trudy, Wendy, Donna, Douglas and Steven.
Dorothy’s family meant the world to her. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Dorothy was a great cook, noted for her sour cream apple pie. Dorothy was proud of her children and always encouraged them to work hard and do their best. She was very involved in 4-H and spent many years as a leader, helping with projects, fair exhibits and community activities.
Dorothy was employed for a time at the Marion Advertiser and ten years in the office at the Marion Plywood Corporation. After retiring in 1981, she and her husband Elmer enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and overseas to Indonesia. They loved fishing, snowmobiling, dancing, playing cards and taking many pictures. They spent nineteen winters in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.
Dorothy was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Marion, a former member of Women of ELCA and Alter Guild. She collected Econo food slips on behalf of the church for eight years and participated in many Bible study classes. Dorothy loved staying connected with her family and friends through letters, cards, phone calls and visits. She also enjoyed crocheting, doing calligraphy, keeping photo albums and scrapbooks and going to the Marion Senior Center. She will be remembered for her loving spirit, kindness, generosity and devotion to God and family.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Trudy (Greg) Schultz, TX, Wendy (Dewey) Viehland, Appleton, Donna Staples, Maurice, Louisiana, Doug (Nola) Arndt, Marion, Steve Arndt, Shawano; eight grandchildren, Jared (Katie) Schultz, Suzanne (Urias) Beechy, Robert Schultz, Shelby (Joel) Tischauser, Carley Schramm, Emily (Pete) Chagnon, Jonathan Viehland, and Christine (Mark) Hubbell; twelve great-grandchildren, Kayla Beechy, Cortni (Jonathan) Moza, Jordan Beechy, London Schultz, Bentley (Thomas) Fink, Aston Tischauser, Isabella, Monica and Collin Schultz, Justin Viehland, Todd and Caleb Hubbell; four great-great-grandchildren, Layla and Gavyn Beechy, Melani Jonathan and Oliver Moza; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elmer, her sister, Luverne Ahrens and an infant great-grandson Micah Hubbell.

Dorothy’s funeral service will be held Wednesday September 25, 2024 at 11am at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marion with Rev. Lois Graper officiating. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30am until the time of service.
