CLINTONVILLE, WI- Superintendent Troy Kuhn outlined potential strategies to address a $1 million deficit in the Clintonville School District’s 2024-25 budget. Presented as information, these ideas have yet to be discussed or approved by the board. Among the proposed budget cuts are the consolidation of administrators and directors, along with reductions in salary and hourly staff. Eliminating an administrator could save $120,000 yearly, a director’s removal could save $90,000, while salary and hourly staff reductions would yield savings of $80,000 and $50,000 annually, respectively.
The discussion also explored transitioning from co-teaching to a classroom support model for special education due to cost considerations. However, concerns were raised about potential implications on the district’s “maintenance of effort” obligations, impacting state funding. Other suggestions included enforcing the two-mile bus transportation rule, extending technology replacement cycles, and reducing professional development expenses, among others. Kuhn emphasized the need for careful consideration to maintain financial stability while addressing budgetary challenges. The district plans to work with Grade A Budgets for a three-year budget projection after determining retirements by Feb. 15.
