SHAWANO, WI- Shawano County Chairman Tom Kautza announced on October 25th that County Supervisor Sandy Steinke has resigned from her position on the board. Her resignation, effective as of October 23, was prompted by her new job in Green Bay, which would make it challenging for her to attend upcoming board and committee meetings.
Steinke represented the 5th County District, which encompasses parts of the city of Shawano, primarily extending from Waukechon Street to the east, as well as properties in the Humphrey Circle area and to the east, including the county fairgrounds.
Shawano County Clerk Kara Skarlupka explained that the chairman has the authority to appoint an individual to complete the unexpired term, subject to approval from the full board. Those interested in being considered for this appointment are encouraged to contact Chairman Tom Kautza at 715-216-4369. Kautza will conduct interviews with potential candidates and may present one of them to the board for approval.
Whether or not an interim appointment is made, the term will conclude in April 2024. Any resident of the district interested in running for the two-year position in the upcoming spring elections can begin circulating nomination papers on December 1, as per Skarlupka. All nomination papers must be submitted to the county clerkâs office by 5 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
Steinke had served on the board for multiple terms, according to the county clerk.
