Shawano Airport Event Moved To Sunday


SHAWANO, WI- Shawano Airport’s fly-in, drive-in, Grand Re-opening, and Runway Re-dedication event on Saturday, August 21 has been moved to Sunday, August 22, 2021, due to possible rainy weather.

“Due to the fact that they are calling for lower visibility and possible storms during the day, the committee made the decision to move the event to our rain day on Sunday,” said Shawano Mayor Bruce Milivitz.

He says the move was made due to safety and had to be made today due to the fact that some people are coming in from afar, and they needed time to make the adjustments to their schedule.

“Everything will be the same, just a day later”, said Milivitz.

The event will celebrate the reopening of the Airport and completion of the $2.3 million primary runway and taxiway renovation project.

The event promises to be a fun day for all, with food, displays, fly-bys, various demonstrations, EAA Young Eagles flights, Learn to Fly Discovery flights, a car show, and much more.

9:00 AM – 2:00 PM Fly-In and aviation displays, car show, food & beverages available on site
9:00 AM – 2:00 PM Learn to fly – Into Discovery Flights by PilotSmith, Inc. (fee based, see info below)
9:30 AM – 11:30 AM EAA Young Eagles flights (free for kids 8-17, see info below)
PilotSmith, Inc. provides flight instruction throughout Northeastern Wisconsin and has agreed to provide Discovery flights for a discounted fee of $99/flight. This will include a brief ground school discussion, followed by in-air instruction lasting approximately 20 minutes. This is a wonderful way to experience flight instruction and a must for those interested in learning to fly. Reservations are required. EAA Young Eagles is a special program sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in Oshkosh. It is intended to provide kids ages 8-17 an opportunity to experience flight, learn about airplanes, and provide an overall experience and introduction to aviation in an organized manner. Young Eagles flights are carried out by EAA member volunteer pilots in volunteer aircraft, with insurance provided by the EAA. To date, over 2 million kids have become EAA Young Eagles. To participate, one must be of the ages specified and will be required to have a parent present during the event. Additionally, it will be necessary to complete a registration form in advance of the flight. Young Eagles flights will be provided as time and available aircraft permit and only during the hours indicated. Bring the signed form to the event.
