Harry Joren Jr., age 84, of Marion passed away Monday evening, November 2, 2020 at ThedaCare Medical Center, Shawano.
Harry was born at home on March 23, 1936 in Roseland, Illinois, to Harry and Ann (Lodewegen) Joren Sr. As a young man, his family moved to a small farm in Leopolis. Then his parents bought a dairy farm in the Town of Dupont, Waupaca County. At the age of 17, Harry entered the U.S. Marine Corps serving stateside in California from 1953-1956. While on leave from the military, he was united in marriage on December 25, 1954 to Joan C. Wulk at Bethany Evangelical Free Parsonage in Clintonville. After his military service ended, the couple settled in Marion in 1956. Harry worked for close to 13 years learning the auto body trade at Bertram’s Auto Body in Marion. He worked at Marion Body Works for a short time. Then Harry was employed for 22 years in the Auto Body Department at the Wittenberg Ford-Mercury Dealership, retiring in 1997. He did car repair work out of his home garage for many years for folks all around the area. Harry also proudly served a short time as a City of Marion Police Officer and as a volunteer fireman for many years with the Marion Fire Department.
Harry was a longtime member of Grace Bible Church in Bowler. He was an active member of the American Legion Post #198 of Marion. From his early years on the farm he always loved large draft horses. Harry often enjoyed the outdoors whether he was golfing, deer hunting, or fishing. He liked riding his motorcycle and flying his model airplane. It was an incredible day for Harry when he was able to solo fly his son-in-law’s 1946 Taylorcraft airplane. After retiring, the couple got a fifth wheel travel trailer and started wintering in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Joan; and three children, Jackie (Andy) Holbrook of Caroline, Bob Joren of Leopolis, and Dave (Kathy) Joren of Tigerton. There are 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter Jill Holbrook; a sister Katherine Cervenka-Magger; and a brother Jacob “Jack” (Pat) Joren.
