The State Assembly awards Hometown Heroes when they have done something amazing for their community, & recently focused on first responders as part of First Responders Appreciation Month (October). There were recipients of the award from each Assembly District across the State, & Mary Beck of the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department has been awarded First Responder of the Year in Assembly District 6.
The nomination can be predicated on a variety of factors including a specific heroic action, a significant professional achievement, community work, and/or length of service. In Marys case…she successfully provided emergency dispatch instructions to assist a family in delivering their baby in a vehicle during an ice storm.
