Waupaca County Highway Commissioner Casey Beyersdorf presented to the Waupaca County Board of Supervisors at the most recent meeting. He gave an update on planning process of the new highway facility in Waupaca County.

“We’re going to need help with it, so our help is going to be hiring an architectural and engineering firm to go through this facility study and everything with us,” Beyersdorf told the board. “Early October we invited all of these architectural firms to come and visit the new facility land that was purchased in 2008. We did a tour of a soybean field that’s currently being rented out and we showed them where the parcel lays and this is what you have to work with.”

From there, Beyersdorf gave the architect firms a tour of the current facility in order to better gauge what the county desires.

“Now these architects are going to put their scope of services, what they can and cannot do for municipal departments, such as ourselves, and they’re supposed to have all of their BID information back to us, saying this is what we can provide you, this is what our scope is going to cost, and this is what a new highway facility is going to cost.”

With the bids in, the next step is to host a special building committee to narrow down the search. The county hopes to be able to begins interviews in early December, with hope to select the best candidate before Christmas. As of now, Beyersdorf says Waupaca County is in a good position during this process.

“We’re getting help. We’re trying to learn what our facility needs and costs are. We’ve given them the information to bid on. It’s just a matter of being patient through this process,” said Beyersdorf.

The new facility is a long-term project. Waupaca County hopes to begin construction in the Fall of 2018.
