Roland Frank H. Zeinert, age 95, of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at his home. Roland was born in Shepley, WI on September 1, 1922, the son of the late Edward Charles and Myrtle Mary (Stickney) Zeinert. Rollie graduated from Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School in 1941, where he competed in the state track meet his senior year. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army Air-Corps, completing his basic training in Biloxi, MS. While stationed in Biloxi, America entered WWII, he then traveled by “liberty ship” to assignments in North Africa and the Italy/Sicily theatre. Rollie was honorably discharged in November of 1945. In 1946, Rollie met Marilyn Doris McGregor through softball, a sport at which he excelled. The couple was united in marriage on October 12, 1946 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Woodruff. His beloved wife preceded him in death on May 15, 1997. Rollie worked for Wisconsin Public Service in Woodruff from 1946 until retiring in 1987. His ability to work at great heights was legendary. Rollie was a life-long active member of the Madsen-Empey American Legion Post #89 in Minocqua. In 2010, he attended the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Roland was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Woodruff where he served on the church council. He also attended and was a friend of the church at Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Shawano. In 2014, Roland was preceded in death by his special love, Arlene Burke. She brought into the family the extra blessings of her grandchildren. Rollie was a special man and will be missed by all who knew him.
Roland is survived by: his daughter, Elizabeth (Richard) LeClair of Wausau; grandsons, Marc LeClair of Wausau and Dean LeClair of Appleton; great-grandsons, Gabriel and Tucker LeClair; Arlene’s grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer) Burke and Rachel Burke of Reno, NV.; Arlene’s great-grandchildren, Emma, Madelyn, Rory and Cody Burke. He is further survived by his siblings, Dorothy Walker, Phyllis Duranso, Lois Lewis, Allen (Shirley) Zeinert, Bonnie (Donald) Kloes-Peters, Peggy Trapp and Sandra (David) Romero; brother-in-law, William Bassett; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Zeinert and Arlette Zeinert; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. Rollie will be greatly missed by his sweet companion, cat, Bootsie.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Marilyn in 1997; his special love, Arlene in 2014; his parents; his siblings, Ruth Buck, LeRoy Zeinert, Edward Zeinert, Patricia Ryden and Gwendolyn Peloquin; and Arlene’s grandson, Robert Burke.
A memorial service for Roland will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Minocqua with Rev. Stephen Lucktorhand officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Madsen-Empey American Legion Post 89. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Minocqua. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service.
