Day two of the Waupaca County Fair wrapped up with great events on Thursday and a full slate of entertainment is expected to continue today and into the weekend. Along with the many animal shows and the midway, the Pleasure Valley pig, duck and goat races have become a staple.

“We do three pig races, two duck races and a goat race,” said owner Larry Loucks. “I pick cheerleaders for each race and the winning cheerleader can either win a pig nose or a duck call and it’s kind of cute. They really like it.”

The races will be running multiple times throughout the weekend. Yesterday also marked an official transition in the county’s Fairest of the Fair, which now belongs to Sydney Brooks of Waupaca.

“I’m just thankful for the crowning ceremony and Kristi [Sawall] who just passed it down to me. “I’m very thankful for her as well as the fair board here at Waupaca County for all the help that they’ve done, as well as supporting me along the way and organizing all the events here for me.”

Animal showings continue , along with the large and small animal market sale taking place at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The midway opened at 1 p.m. with the option of a $25 ride survival wristband. Then of course in the grandstands tonight, performances by Montgomery Gentry.

No matter why you come, Kristi Sawall says you need to stop at the great food stands for the chocolate shakes.

“I don’t know which one has better chocolate shakes, if it’s the 4-H food stand or the Farm Bureau, so you’ll have to come and try them,” she said. They’re both a little different, but they both have a unique chocolate taste. They are to die for and they are my favorite.”   

Fair activities continue in Weyauwega until Sunday.
