One man was killed as heavy thunderstorms rumbled through the northern half of Wisconsin Sunday. Police in Chetek say the victim was cleaning up storm damage when a tree fell onto him, and his name was not released after he died at the scene. Two large waves of storms went through northern and central Wisconsin, causing extensive hail damage, heavy rains, flooding, fallen trees, and power outages to thousands of customers. A barn was destroyed near Gleason in Lincoln County, and the National Weather Service says a 20 foot section of a second barn roof was blown for up to 500 feet into a farm field, and six and one half inches of rain fell at Lac du Flambeau in Vilas County, and a car was blown off a road near Ladysmith.
Locally, Highway 55 was closed in Keshena after trees and power lines went down. Reports of rotation occurred in Langlade County near Antigo.
Strong winds hit for a short period of time in Shawano. Trees were reported down in large numbers.
