Eugene G. Bennett, age 83 of Shawano, passed away on Sunday morning, Jun e 4, 2017 at Maple Lane Health Care Center, where he had been a resident for the past eighteen months.
Gene was born on January 30, 1934 in the Town of Red Springs, a son of the late Francis and Edna (Welch) Bennett. He graduated from Gresham High School. Following high school Gene entered the United States Marine Corps, and served during the Korean War. Upon returning from service he moved back to the Red Springs area.
On November 22, 1958 Gene was united in marriage to Margaret C. “Marge” Spurrier at the Mission Church in the Town of Red Springs. Following their marriage the couple lived in Hartford, then Wauwatosa where they remained for 25 years. Gene was employed with the operating engineers in New Berlin for over 25 years. On June 26, 2007, Marge passed away, and Eugene moved back to the area.
Survivors include his son, Ben Bennett of Slinger; his grandson, Tad Bennett of Janesville; two sisters, Phyllis and Elaine; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Eugene G. Bennett will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Shawano AmVets Post 10 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at Mickelson Funeral Service on Friday from 9:00 AM until 9:45 when the procession leaves for the cemetery.
