A Menominee Indian School District teacher was recently honored at the state level.

Karl Morrin, Director of Pupil Services and Special Education at MISD, received the Rising Star Award from the Wisconsin Council of Administrators of Special Services (WCASS).

Morrin was previously the assistant principal at Keshena Primary School and just completed his first year in his current position, where he was nominated for the honor by Executive Director of Special Education for CESA-8, Dave Kwiatkowski.

“Karl has the courage and integrity to do the right thing for students, rather than the easy thing,” Kwiatkowski said.

He added that Morrin willingly met all of the challenges of the position with professionalism, honesty, compassion, and integrity.

MISD Superintendent Wendell Waukau also had high praise for Morrin’s work, and his ability to motivate his staff.

“[Morrin] influences his special education staff by his example,” Waukau stated. “He doesn’t need to lead with his title. He has an extreme passion for his students. His heart and soul gives them hope. His high expectations and his example have contributed to improved classroom strategies for his special education teachers.”

Morrin accepted the WCASS Rising Star Award at their spring conference in Madison and will now be considered for national recognition.
