The two candidates for the Clintonville City Administrator: Sharon Eveland (Left) Kevin Opple (Right)
The city of Clintonville will likely name a new city administrator at Monday night’s common council meeting. In total, 17 applicants applied for the position, which was narrowed down to the final two, Sharon Eveland from Georgia and Kevin Opple, originally from Michigan.
Both candidates received a tour of the city and an in-person interview last Wednesday, which also featured a public meet and greet session.
For Eveland, she believes Clintonville is a city that has a lot of potential and should focus on building upon what already is a strength.
“Everybody needs money, everyone has struggles with their budget and needing funds, there’s always things that need to get done, but one of the things that I can bring to the table is my ability to find those funds,” Eveland explained at the public meet and greet. “I do have experience with grant writing and I have successfully written a grant. There’s a lot of programs out there, especially your Main Street programs for grants for facade improvements and things of that nature. I think that’s really important for the city to focus on.”
Kevin Opple is another finalist and he thinks the industries that Clintonville boasts will be a key for pushing the city forward.
“This is an amazing city in the fact that it still had industry,” Opple stated. “Everything is there to be great. You have a lot of infrastructure that the city owns, which needs work; it needs long-term care. You still have a small community that really cares about itself and they still love this town.”
Opple went on to explain he’s met with citizens who returned to the city after living away for sometime, which he believes shows the spirit of a city that still has opportunity.
The Clintonville Personnel Committee is scheduled to meet at 5:30 on Monday, where they will make their recommendation to the Clintonville Common Council, who will ultimately decide which candidate will get the position, an announcement that could come as early as Monday night.
