SHAWANO, WI- Alderman Kevin Barkow will continue as president of the Shawano Common Council for a second year, following a unanimous vote at the council’s reorganizational meeting on April 15.
Barkow, who represents the 3rd Aldermanic District, was the sole nominee for the position. As council president, he will chair meetings in the mayor’s absence and oversee council member appointments to various committees. Barkow’s new round of appointments received unanimous approval from the council.
Committee assignments for the council members are as follows:
- Brad Keuschel (1st District): Business Improvement District Board, Plan Commission, Utilities Board.
- Jim Hauer (2nd District): Field Committee, Airport Commission, Plan Commission.
- Kevin Barkow (3rd District): Finance and Personnel Committees, Park and Recreation Commission, Shawano County Arts Council Board.
- Jack Young (4th District): Finance and Personnel Committees, Industrial and Commercial Development Committee, Senior Citizens Commission, Housing Authority, Wolf River Treatment Plant Commission.
- Linda Meyer (5th District): Airport Commission, Joint City-County Transportation Committee, Park and Recreation Commission, Shawano County Chamber of Commerce Board.
- John Hoeffs (6th District): Finance, Field, and Personnel Committees, Shawano County Economic Progress Inc. Board, Utilities Board.
Mayor Bruce Milavitz’s committee appointments were also approved and include:

Additionally, Aldermen Barkow, Keuschel, and Meyer were sworn in for new two-year terms. Meyer begins her first term representing the 5th District, after running unopposed to succeed longtime Alderman Sandy Steinke, who stepped down after more than 20 years of service.
