With eight seniors on the roster and a strong core of returning varsity talent, the Shawano Hawks baseball team enters the 2025 season with high expectations and the kind of experience that can make a big difference come crunch time.
“We have eight seniors coming back,” said Head Coach Dustin Beyer. “Six of them had playing time last year, and three have been on varsity since their sophomore season. So yeah, we have a lot of experience coming back for sure.”
That seasoned lineup will be critical in a competitive conference, and nowhere is that depth more apparent than on the mound. Leading the pitching staff is senior Pete Bruette, a trusted arm who will likely anchor the rotation. Jerzy Brocker, now in his third year on varsity, also returns as a key contributor.
Beyer also has high hopes for juniors Grant Kesso and Aiden Bystol, while senior Warner Beyer—another lefty—adds depth and versatility.
“Those five guys are going to get a lot of innings for us,” said Beyer.
The Hawks’ strength also lies up the middle, where continuity and leadership stand out. The double-play duo of Parker Beyer and Anderson Schmidt brings reliable defense, while Warner Beyer will cover ground in center field.
“The communication and the experience those guys have—it’s going to help us a lot defensively,” Beyer noted.
Offensively, Shawano looks to its most experienced bats to produce in the heart of the order. Bruette, Brocker, and Crew Weisnicht—all in their third varsity seasons—are expected to be key run producers, likely hitting in the 3-4-5 spots.
“They’ve been there, done that, and they know how to play the game,” said Beyer. “They’re also doing a great job helping bring the younger guys along.”
With a combination of veteran leadership, solid pitching depth, and proven production, the Hawks are in position to be a serious contender this spring. If experience is the best teacher, Shawano may be one of the most well-schooled teams in the area.
