MADISON, WI- Shawano Wrestling Club had a strong showing at the WWF Kids Folkstyle State Championships, with Brock Korth and Samson Gilling leading the way with standout performances. Both young wrestlers fought through tough brackets, securing top finishes and proving their talent on the mat. Meanwhile, Levi DuQuaine and Levi Hoffman battled hard, picking up key victories and valuable experience.
Korth Dominates to a Runner-Up Finish
Brock Korth (2016-2017, 105 lbs) had a stellar tournament, finishing 2nd place and scoring an impressive 27.5 team points. He made quick work of his early opponents, earning a 0:59 pin in his opening match, followed by a 16-0 tech fall in the quarterfinals. Korth continued his dominance in the semifinals with a lightning-fast 0:26 pin over Mason Elmer (Hudson).
In the championship match, Korth faced off against Emmitt Groff (Muskego Wrestling Club) in a battle for the title. Despite a hard-fought effort, he fell by pin at 2:41, securing a state runner-up finish. His performance showcased his strength, technique, and determination, setting the stage for even bigger accomplishments in the future.
Gilling Fights to a 5th Place Finish
Samson Gilling (2016-2017, 69 lbs) put together an impressive tournament, claiming a 5th place finish and scoring 16.5 team points. He opened with a bye before scoring a 2:42 pin in his first match. He followed that with a dominant tech fall (19-3) in the quarterfinals.
Gilling faced a tough semifinal matchup against Carter Neubert (Team Nazar Training Center), where he was pinned in 1:27. After a setback in the consolation semis, he rebounded in the 5th place match, securing an 11-9 decision over Hawk Nolden (Pardeeville Boys Club Youth Wrestling). His ability to bounce back and finish strong showed his resilience and competitive spirit.
Levi DuQuaine and Levi Hoffman Show Grit
Levi DuQuaine (2016-2017, 51 lbs) picked up two hard-fought victories, scoring 3 team points. He started with a 10-7 decision win over Sawyer Wilsens (Oak Creek Attack Wrestling Club) and later secured another close 5-4 decision in the consolation rounds. DuQuaine showed great fight but was eliminated in the third round of consolations.
Levi Hoffman (2016-2017, 63 lbs) had a tough road, starting with a narrow 6-3 sudden victory loss. He received a bye in the first round of consolations but suffered an injury default in the second round, cutting his tournament short. Despite the setback, his effort and determination were evident.
