MADISON, WI- Shawano Youth Wrestling had a strong showing at the WWF Kids Folkstyle State Championships, with several athletes battling through tough brackets and showcasing their skills on the mat. Among the standout performances, Finley Gebhardt secured a fourth-place finish in the Boys Born in 2014-2015 57 division, leading Shawano with 23 team points.
Finley Gebhardt’s Path to Fourth Place
Gebhardt opened his tournament with a bye before pinning Jaxon Mamayek of Kewaskum Indians Wrestling Club in just 1:56. He then faced a setback in the quarterfinals, falling to Caden Senzig (LAW) in 46 seconds. However, Gebhardt responded with a dominant run through the consolation bracket. He defeated Gus Vandenbush (Nicolet Knights) in a 10-0 major decision and pinned Maxton Lee (Bonduel) in 59 seconds. His momentum continued with a 2:44 pin over Brian Suarez (Red Hot Wrestling Club) in the consolation semifinals. In the third-place match, Gebhardt once again faced Senzig, this time falling by an 8-0 major decision, securing a fourth-place finish.
Other Shawano Wrestlers Compete Hard
While other Shawano wrestlers didn’t reach the podium, they put in strong efforts:
• Ethan Hutchcraft (Boys Born in 2014-2015 87) earned 3 team points, securing two victories, including a 4-0 decision over Brody Kuntz and a 3-0 decision over Mason Koele.
• Landon Nacotee (Boys Born in 2014-2015 90) scored 7 team points, recording two pins, including a fall in 56 seconds over Wyatt Steinert.
• Jax Korth (Boys Born in 2014-2015 150) contributed 3 team points, pinning Eddie Ellenbecker in just 26 seconds.
• Gabriel Gilling also competed.
Levi DuQuaine, Levi Hoffman, Samson Gilling, and Brock Korth (Boys Born in 2016-2017 divisions) all wrestle Saturday
The tournament provided valuable experience for Shawano’s young wrestlers as they continue to develop their skills. With strong performances like Gebhardt’s, the future remains bright for Shawano Wrestling.
