MUKWA, WI, A fire broke out late Monday night at Guth’s Landing and Resort in Waupaca County, causing significant damage to parts of the campground.
Authorities received a call shortly after 10 p.m. reporting smoke and flames coming from the campground’s bar building. Nearly 10 emergency agencies responded to the scene.
According to the New London Fire Department, the fire burned through the roof of the campground’s bathroom and shower facility, with flames extending into an attached game room. The bar area also sustained heavy smoke damage.
Officials noted that mounted wild animals and fish on display in the bar were preserved, as they were inside a glass case.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The property owner reported lighting a hot water heater and adjusting a furnace thermostat about 30 minutes before the fire was discovered.
Damage estimates have not yet been determined.
