Nell Lee Jane Hawpetoss-Tiedemann, “KIMOKWE,” age 78 of Shawano, started her journey to the Spirit World late Saturday evening, February 15, 2025. Nell Lee was born December 19, 1946, in Keshena, a daughter of the late Mayawehyahkasic “Duffy” and Catherine (Wychesit) Hawpetoss. She attended St. Michaels Catholic Grade School and later Shawano High School, graduating with the Class of 1965. Following high school, she attended beauty school in Green Bay and worked as a beautician. Throughout her life, Nell Lee was always very involved with her family, friends, and community. She was a fantastic cook and enjoyed beading, sewing and visiting with her friends. She grew up in a family full of love, laughter, and the occasional shenanigans that continued with her children and grandchildren. One of Nell Lee’s greatest pleasures came from attending meetings with the
“Maeqtekuahkihkiw Metaemohsak”- the Woodland Womens group. She was one of the most respected elders in the Native Communities.
Nell Lee’s legacy will continue in the lives of her six children, Michael (Monica Wetzel) Hawpetoss of Green Bay, Matthew (Kim) Hawpetoss of Pulaski, Ace (Carmen) Tiedemann of Milwaukee, Joy Tiedemann of Bonduel, Sara (Mark) Benish of Bonduel, and Staci (Brandon) Madosh of Keshena; nine grandchildren, Caleb and Eve Hawpetoss, Aaron and Sean Hawpetoss, Mary and Staci Tiedemann, Cierra, Alex, and Owen Benish; three great- grandchildren, Ryker Benish, Lyla, and Tommy Raith; and one sister, Laura Brzezinski. Nell Lee will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends as well as her extended family, and they know who they are! “We want to give a special thank you to all of those unnamed individuals who have contributed during this whole process.”
