
Reginald “Reggie” Zhuckkahosee, spirit name “PENETEWA” (walking towards a crowd), age 76, of Keshena and community member of Sandia Pueblo, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. Reggie was born on February 23, 1948, in Keshena WI, a son of the late James and Matilda (Waupoose) Zhuckkahosee, Sr. Reggie attended Shawano High School and later graduated from Kerney Mesa High School, San Diego in 1989. He was drafted in the United States Marine Corps in 1968 and served in Vietnam, Whiskey Battery 1/12th Marine Regiment 3rd Marine Division. He continued his service in the Marine Corps and retired as a Master Sergeant in July 1990. His military career took him all over the world on ship and permanent duty stations to include, Camp Pendleton, US Naval Air Base Coronado San Diego, and MCAS Tustin. After military retirement, he moved his family to Albuquerque, NM and later moved with his wife and family to Sandia Pueblo. He earned his Associate Degree in Business Administration from Technical Vocation Institute. He worked for the federal government before retiring. He loved to travel with his family, enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially back home on the lands of the Menominee, indigenous crafting, feeding his birds and hummingbirds, and his dog Princess. He also enjoyed participating in the Senior Olympics, Sandia Pueblo Kateri Circle, Crow Settlement family reunions, annual Whiskey Battery Reunions, attending Pow Wows, riding in the woods back home, going to Pueblo Feasts and dances, and attending family events. He was our family videographer, recording games, holidays, and special times with family. He was a very humble, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, God Father, mentor, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. We will be forever grateful for his guidance, strength, humility, and love.
Reggie is survived by: his wife Marie Zhuckkahosee of Sandia Pueblo, son James (Monica) Zhuckkahosee of Sandia Pueblo, daughter Regina Zhuckkahosee of Sandia Pueblo, son Anthony (Carina) Zhuckkahosee of Alamogordo, NM, son Reginald Zhuckkahosee II of Sandia Pueblo; grandchildren, Kya (Thomas Sr.) Otero, Jaymee (Ernest) Montoya, Reggie Zhuckkahosee, Mara (Kevin) Tran, Kaneysa, Kamaywen, Christopher Gorges, Amber Gorges, Aden Zhuckkahosee, Nylah Zhuckkahosee, Jordyn, Zhuckkahosee, Malakai Zhuckkahosee; greatgrandchildren, Rhean Chavez-Otero, Mary Otero, Thomas, Otero, Tanner Montoya, Hunter Montoya, Ernest Montoya, Rylee Montoya, Elijah Gorges, Lumi Tran; siblings Marcia (Loren Washinawatok) Zhuckkahosee, Thomas (Karen) Zhuckkahosee, Aloysius (Alberta) Zhuckkahosee, Lisa Zhuckkahosee, Lee (Karen) Zhuckkahosee, Leona Poole, Clarice (Doyle) Wilber. He is further survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his siblings James Zhuckkahosee Jr., Myrna Bergen, Cheryl McCann, Sandra Draghi, Cornell Zhuckkahosee, infant Reginald.
A traditional service for Reginald Zhuckkahosee will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Menominee Tribal Community Center in Neopit. Visitation will begin Wednesday, February 19, 2025, after 5:00 pm at the Menominee Tribal Community Center in Neopit and will continue until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will be in the Crow Settlement Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation at the community center immediately following the service.
