In a heartwarming twist to his regular duties, Deputy Chase Mason of the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department recently responded to a 911 call from an unexpected source—a 10-year-old boy seeking help with his math homework. The young caller explained to dispatch that he was having trouble with his math problems and that, unfortunately, his family “wasn’t very good at math either.”
When the call came through, Deputy Mason, who modestly admitted in his report that he is “not overly proficient when it comes to math,” decided to respond to the call anyway. The deputy arrived and worked side by side with the student to tackle decimal-related math problems, ultimately helping him reach the correct answers.
After successfully solving the homework problem, Deputy Mason provided the young caller with a business card, assuring him that the sheriff’s department is always here to help. However, he also advised that next time, the boy should use the non-emergency line for situations that aren’t life-threatening.
