Chevaughn L. Schanandore “ANAQ KEESEKOKIW” (Star Sky Woman), age 23, of Neopit, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 29, 2024, from the injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Shawano County. Chevaughn was born June 28, 2001, in Antigo, a daughter of Cheequah Schanandore and the late Sherry L. (Barnes) Schanandore. Chevaughn attended the Menominee Tribal Schools. She was a fancy dancer at the Pow Wows and attended Menominee Youth Culture Camp where she learned how to bead, make moccasins, and work on her regalia. Recently, she was a team leader at the Challenge Academy where she taught women how to do many different things, including how to braid hair. She was an excellent artist and musician. Above all, she loved being with her children.
Chevaughn is survived by her two children, Sonny Day Hawpetoss and Rainy Mae Cartegna; her father, Cheequah Schanandore; sister, Holly Schanandore; brother, Cheequah Schanandore Jr; and her paternal grandmother, Rose Schanandore. She is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends. Chevaughn was preceded in death by her mother, Sherry Schanandore; her paternal grandfather, Henry Hawpetoss; maternal grandfather, Vaughn Thunder; and maternal grandmother, Wanda Peters.
A memorial service for Chevaughn and her brother, Warren Peters, will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the Rose Schanandore residence, N2065 Hickory Street, Neopit. Mr. Dave Grignon “NAHWAHQUAW” will officiate. Visitation will begin at the Schanandore residence after 10:00 am on Saturday.
