David L. Marten, age 83 of Tigerton, formerly of Cloverleaf Lakes, Clintonville, passed away early Wednesday morning with the comfort of family by his side on August 28, 2024 at The Pines Post-Acute and Memory Care, Embarrass.
David “Dave” Leroy Marten was born May 20, 1941 in Mattoon, WI, son to the late Edwin & Gladys (Glinske) Marten. He attended Mattoon schools where he played basketball. Following highschool, he worked as a farm hand in Black Creek and Eland areas, also worked in the potato fields, then his father got him a job with WI Timber and Land/Veneer Mill-cutting crew and moved up to the logging crew. Dave bought a milk route and delivered until many farmers put in bulk tanks, moved to Shawano, drove whey truck for Graf Creamery Zachow. Dave then worked construction for ABC Buildings/Torborgs in Clintonville. Dave joined his wife who was working as a certified nursing assistant for the Shawano Convalescent Center and was hired as the maintenance man/groundskeeper for several years. Lastly, Dave was fortunate to be hired as the maintenance supervisor for the doctors at the Shawano Clinic, now known as ThedaCare Clinic and retired from there. Dave really enjoyed working for the Shawano Clinic physicians. He loved spending time outdoors and hunted in his younger years. He enjoyed listening to Polka music and classic country music on Sundays. Taking care of his yard was something Dave took pride in over the years. Dave enjoyed his John Deere tractor collection. As a self-taught carpenter, he built many things over the years, including the garages on his property. In his later years, Dave found joy in family gatherings and spending time with all of his grandchildren. Dave was a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Township of Belle Plaine.
Dave was united in marriage to Josephine Russell in 1961; they were blessed with three daughters. Dave is survived by the love of his life for over 50 years, Josephine.
