SHAWANO, WI- In response to a recent spike in vandalism incidents at city parks, the Shawano Police Department is intensifying patrols and introducing new measures to protect public spaces. The department is calling on the community to assist by reporting any suspicious activity and ensuring that their children are not involved in these illegal activities.
Starting immediately, the Shawano Police Department will enhance nighttime patrols across all city parks. Key areas have seen improvements in surveillance cameras to deter potential vandals and aid in identifying those responsible. Individuals caught violating park regulations will receive no-trespass notices and could face further legal action.
The police department urges residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in the parks. Prompt reporting can significantly help in preventing vandalism and apprehending offenders. Suspicious activities can be reported to the non-emergency number at 715-526-6117.
Parents are also being asked to talk to their children about the importance of respecting public property. Vandalism not only causes damage to parks but also reduces the enjoyment and safety of these areas for everyone. It is crucial for children to understand the consequences of such behavior and to report any wrongdoing they observe.
“The Shawano Police Department is committed to preserving the beauty and safety of our city parks,” said Lt. Michael Musolff. “We are taking these steps to ensure that our parks remain a safe and welcoming environment for all residents and visitors.”
