BONDUEL, WI- Reconstruction efforts along state Highway 117 in Bonduel are progressing faster than anticipated, with officials from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announcing that the project is currently running about a week and a half ahead of schedule. Despite a recent water main break in the village, which occurred earlier in the week, the construction has remained largely unaffected.
Chris VandenBush, representing Advance Construction, the company overseeing the project, cautioned against overly optimistic projections regarding the completion timeline. He emphasized the potential for unforeseen challenges, noting past instances where initial estimations fell short due to unexpected obstacles.
The second phase of the project, spanning from South Street to County Road BE, is now underway. While traffic will be restricted from passing through the area, access to local businesses within the construction zone will be maintained.
Progress on the first phase includes the installation of full pavement, with ongoing work to replace a water main near Mill Street, separate from the recent break. Pedestrian access and crosswalks will remain available to facilitate movement through the town, ensuring continued accessibility to businesses.
Following the water main replacement, crews will undertake storm sewer maintenance before proceeding with road excavation, curb and gutter installation, electrical work, driveway paving, and final asphalt surfacing. The second phase is slated for completion by mid-June, with assurances that project deadlines will not interfere with the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
Given the project’s impact on the County BE intersection, temporary measures will be implemented, including the installation of four-way stop signs and the installation of new traffic signals. Pedestrian access at County BE will be maintained throughout the construction period.
To minimize disruption during the Memorial Day weekend, construction will halt at noon on the preceding Friday and resume at 6 a.m. the day after the holiday. Residents are encouraged to continue supporting local businesses, with efforts to navigate around construction areas facilitated by the community’s familiarity with alternate routes.
Jesse Rankin, Bonduel’s municipal operations director, addressed a recent water main break in the village’s business district, highlighting minimal disruptions and swift resolution. Despite some impact on local businesses, Rankin expressed confidence in the community’s resilience and cooperation throughout the ongoing construction process.
A subsequent public meeting is planned for the week of June 10 to address details concerning the commencement of Highway 117’s third and final phase.
