SHAWANO, WI- A 44-year-old man, accused of residing in an outdoor bunker to evade law enforcement, will see a delay in his potential plea agreement.
Shawn Clark appeared via video in Shawano County Circuit Court on Tuesday, accompanied by his attorney, for a scheduled plea and sentencing hearing. Clark had previously been relocated to the Dodge County Jail due to a revocation issue. The hearing has now been rescheduled for June 13.
Clarkâs legal troubles stem from a 2018 conviction for sexual contact with a child he was acquainted with two years prior. Initially, he received two years of probation with a requirement to spend 75 days in jail. However, in August 2020, this agreement was nullified, and Clark was instead sentenced to five years of probation and lifetime registration as a sex offender.
In June 2022, Clark failed to comply with his annual registration, leading to his designation as non-compliant. Further investigation revealed that he likely absconded from supervision around July 2021.
Authorities received intelligence suggesting Clark was residing in a wooded area near Aniwa in a concealed structure. Attempts to apprehend him were reportedly impeded by his own family members. Clark had allegedly expressed intentions of avoiding incarceration, prompting the involvement of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.
The hideout, situated near County Highway D and County Highway OO in the town of Norrie, Marathon County, was strategically built on private property to evade law enforcement. Descriptions indicate it was positioned atop a raised hill, affording its occupant a wide vantage point.
Additionally, Clark faces charges in Marathon County for offenses including possessing a firearm, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a concealed knife.
