SHAWANO, WI- In a move anticipated to conclude within a year, the Shawano County Board of Supervisors has given the green light to a resolution and memorandum of understanding that will transfer ownership and management of the Shawano Airport to the city of Shawano. The effective date for this transition is set for January 1, 2025, or upon final approval from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Bureau of Aeronautics, whichever occurs first.
Board Chairman Tom Kautza clarified that the essence of this decision is that the county will no longer be involved in the airport business, and the city will assume sole responsibility for its operations. Supervisor Jerry Erdmann expressed that this change has been a long time coming, citing the historical shared expenses between the city and county in managing the airport.
