Edward “Ed” Jeske, age 92 of Shawano, peacefully went home to be with our Lord and those he loved and have gone before him on December 2, 2023. Ed was born in Lyndhurst on September 4, 1931, a son of the late Emil and Irene (Schoenfeld) Jeske. When he was just a boy, his family moved to the Koehler Logging Camp in Watersmeet, Michigan. Ed went to the Watersmeet Grade School through 8th grade. He then helped in the logging camp. In the late 1940’s, the family moved back to Wisconsin, making their home in Thorp. Ed enlisted in the Armed Services in 1951 and served in the 73 rd Combat Engineers Corps under the 10th Corps, 8th Army in Korea. In 1953 he was honorably discharged and returned home. While working in Janesville, Wisconsin, Ed met the love of his life, Joyce Stibbe. They were married on January 23, 1961, in Oregon Co., Illinois. The couple moved to California for eight months before returning to Janesville where they had three children. Ed worked for A&H Trucking Company hauling milk until his dad passed away. The family then moved to Shawano and moved into Grandma and Grandpa Schoenfeld’s old house. Ed worked for Pat Crawford, Northwest Forest Products as a logging truck driver and diesel mechanic. During that time the couple had two more children. In 1980 the family moved to the Roy Habeck farm where Ed farmed until 1995 when he retired. Joyce and Ed enjoyed going for rides in the spring to see the newly blooming flowers, especially the Trillium growing along the roadside. In the fall they enjoyed the beautiful colors on the trees. Ed loved trout fishing on the Chippewa flowage in the spring. Ed and Joyce enjoyed going to The Highground Veterans Park in Neillsville as well as the Korean War Memorial in Plover, Wisconsin. Ed had the distinguished honor of going on the Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington, DC, Mission 50 in May of 2019. He said it was one of the best things he ever did.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 63 years, Joyce Elaine (Stibbe) Jeske; two daughters, Julie Ann (Jay) Sporisky, and Sandra Lynn Jeske; three sons, Jerome Jeske, John (Shileena) Jeske, and Joseph Jeske, all of Shawano; grandchildren, Heather Niemisto, Valerie Drengler, Timothy (Amanda) Kohn, Ashaley Sporisky, Skylar Cook, Leann (Josh) Collings, Jonathon Fouts, Samantha Fouts, Zachery Fouts, Rylea Fouts, Emma Jeske, William Boivin (Nikki), Chance Schults, Taylar Jeske, and Kallie Jeske; 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; his nieces, Calla (Gary) Kuehl, Sarah (Jeff) Kirchner, Rebecca (Daniel) Carpenter; his nephews, Paul (Ashleigh) Schlueter, and Matthew (Meg) Schlueter.
