WAUPACA, WI- The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning after a concerned citizen reported a fraudulent phone call. The caller impersonated one of the Patrol Sergeants from the Sheriff’s Office and falsely claimed that the recipient had a Social Security Warrant, threatening arrest.
It is crucial to emphasize that neither the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office nor any other legitimate law enforcement agency will ever notify individuals of a Social Security Warrant via telephone. Residents are strongly urged not to transfer money or share their Social Security numbers with anyone over the phone, even if the caller insists it is required to “verify” their warrant status.
To protect our community, please help spread the word about these scams among your friends, family, and neighbors who may not be aware of these deceptive tactics. Awareness is a key defense against falling victim to such fraudulent activities. Stay vigilant and share this information to ensure everyone’s safety.
