PULASKI, WI- The Shawano County Brunch on the Farm was a huge success in 2023. Over 3,800 people enjoyed the day eating and learning about farm life.
“We are a rain or shine event,” said Krista Hoffman of the Shawano County Farm Bureau.
This years event was at Synergy Family Dairy and was hosted by the Jauquet Family. Heather Jauquet says she took a moment to sit back and watch everything happen. “There are a lot of moving parts and pieces that needed to be put in place, but it is worth it when we see it all take place. We understand the importance of people being able to come out to the farm and see what a operating dairy farm looks like.
Heather’s son Mason says he has never seen the farm like this. “This is different from the average day-to-day-farming.” He said it took a lot of work to get things ready. “It’s exciting that we get to share the farm with this many people.”
Once again the food was prepared by students and FFA advisors in Shawano County. Shawano FFA advisor Steve Stomberg has been doing this for more than 15 years. He spent much of the morning on the sausage station.
“You just have to make sure they don’t get burnt and keep them on the grill, not on the ground,” said Stomberg. He says having the students put in the effort says a lot.
“It’s a Sunday, leave the high school at 6:30, sit in a hot tent, it’s a little work, but the kids are doing a great job. We know we are serving over 3,000 people, so it’s a pretty awesome event.”
Some people got to learn a little more than they expected as a baby calf was born that morning.
