APPLETON, WI- Shawano Senior Michael Metcalf-Grassman became the 8th Boys Basketball Player in Shawano History to eclipse 1000 career points Saturday afternoon in a 92-82 loss to the Bay Conference Champions.
The game turned into a three-point shootout with the teams combining for 22 three pointers on the afternoon, including a half-court shot by Xavier at the first half buzzer.
Xavier jumped out to big first half lead on the shooting of Carson Hehli and Alex Sherwood. The two combined for 11 three-pointers on their own.
Metcalf-Grassman needed 10 points to reach 1000 coming into the game, but needed most of the first half to reach it, as Xavier’s defense shutdown the inside game. He ended the game with 19 points.
The game consisted of three technical fouls on Shawano, including two back to back technical fouls on Shawano Coach Dave Ambrosius, resulting in him being ejected from the game in the first half. He was hit with the second one as he continued to argue the call shortly after. Shawano also had a player on the bench receive a technical. Assistant Coach Andrew Brooks coached the rest of the game for Shawano.
Shawano was outscored by 20 at the half and outscored Xavier in the second half. Helhi had 27 points and Sherwood 23 to lead Xavier. Sherwood had a double with 10 rebounds. Shawano was led by Logan Sipple with 28, Michael Metcalf-Grassman with 19 and Jacob Landon and Luke Guenter with 14.
