-Multiple crews responded to a house fire in Elderon on Thursday morning. The structure was a 2 story home off of Highway 153. Crews responding included the Wittenberg Fire and Ambulance, Hatley Fire as well as the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. During the time, a portion of Highway 153 was closed due to the active scene.
-Fire crews responded to a fire in Gresham on Thursday. The Sheriff’s Office in Shawano County confirmed the fire took place on Main Street. The call came in around 3:45am. No additional details were given.
The Raptor Education Group says a bald eagle that was shot with an arrow in Waupaca County should be left alone. The incident happened in the area of Raymond Drive back on February 21st. According to the Raptor Education Group, the eagle was able to remove the arrow, but there was still some bleeding. They say the cold temperatures will help with the injury.
-The Finnegan Lake Walleye Club is getting ready for the 41st anniversary of their fishing Derby, but this year will look a little bit different due to the conditions on the water. While the ice conditions may not be great, there will still be events taking place. It’s held in the Oconto County Fair Main Exhibition Building at Zippel Park. Bucket raffles will be set up all day with an afternoon drawing. The Grand Prize drawing will take place at the end of the day around 4:30pm.
-The City of Seymour is receiving information about a spam call that took place this week. A discount was being offered by the City of Seymour on a resident’s energy bill, however, city officials say they don’t offer discounts of energy bills and if anyone receives calls like this they should contact the city to confirm how valid it is. People should not be giving out any personal information.
-Shawano School District continues to find ways to recognize their teachers. This year they’re taking nominations once again for ‘Teacher Of The Year’. It is the continuation of the program. The awards include each of the four schools, plus one person involved with pupil services. That’s a total of five awards. School board member Mark Grams says he was concerned it becomes more of a participation trophy than an honor. Superintendent Kurt Krizan says it’s a way to honor the teachers and he said it’s also something that should be done as teachers get an opportunity to be recognized by their peers. The awards were brought back last year after a lengthy hiatus.
-Waupaca County snowmobile trail update: Zone 1 is closed, Zone 2 is opening today, Zone 3 is closed and Zone 4 will also be opening today. Zone 5 and 6 remain closed with Zone 8 being closed and Zone 7 opening today.
