John “John E Law” Gutho, age 57, of Tigerton the son of the late Maynard and Vonnie (Bazile) Gutho was born March 11, 1965, in Tigerton and passed to the “Arms of Jesus”, on Friday, January 27, 2023, after a courage 9-month battle with cancer. He was a lifetime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, whereas a young lad he became a Mass Server. He later served as usher, trustee, and on the finance committee, etc. He was united in marriage to Sharon Arndt on January 2, 1997, in Las Vegas and later blessed at St. Anthony’s Church. They built a happy life and enjoyed many activities together such as golf, bowling and traveling, especially to Las Vegas and various islands.
As a teenager he worked at Ken’s Mobile Station and did fieldwork for farmers. He often took items apart to see what made them “tick” and then put them back together. This didn’t always play out well! John graduated from Tigerton High School in 1983. After graduation he worked as an EMT, at Bantom Tool, and Clintonville Lumber. John attended classes at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton for Police and Fire Science. His first job in Law enforcement was with the Village of Tigerton before joining the Shawano Co. Sheriff Department. John worked diligently at his job, working his way through the ranks, retiring as Chief Deputy in 2016. John was currently employed by the Village of Tigerton.
John spent his life serving his community, serving as trustee and village president for many years. For over 30 years was a member of the Tigerton Fire Department and was the current Fire Chief. John was a member of the Tigerton Lions Club for over 30 years and a member and past president of the Wisconsin Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff Association.
John lived life to the fullest with no regrets. He was always willing to help anyone who needed a hand. He raced in the sportsman class at Shawano and Antigo Speedways, bowled for many years scoring a 298 and 300, he loved to travel, especially his annual golfing trips to Michigan, and enjoyed hunting and his trips out west with his uncle Jack.
John is survived by his wife Sharon; mother Vonnie (Jim Grenz); sisters Teresa (Tim) Griepentrog and Mary Ellen (Marlin) Schafer; stepdaughter Angela; grandchildren Logan and Tenley; nephews, Nathan (Abby) Griepentrog and Preston Schafer; niece, Rachel Griepentrog; four great nephews, Zeke, Gabriel, Caleb and Lucas; two great nieces Isabella and Evelyn, and special aunt Patty.
