SHAWANO, WI- Three elected officials took their official oath of office on Tuesday morning to start their new terms.
Current Shawano County Coroner Brian Westphal and current Shawano County Clerk of Courts Ethan Schmidt were both sworn in for another term.
Newly elected Shawano County Sheriff George Lenzner also took his oath to start his first term. Lenzner defeated Brad Olsen in the Republican Primary in the fall and was uncontested in the November General Election. He takes over for former Sheriff Adam Bieber who decided not to run for a third term.
“It has been a nice transition and I have pretty much been running things for the last three months anyway,” Lenzner said. “We have a new administrative staff that I am excited about.”
Starting Tuesday, Ty Raddant took over as Chief Deputy and Nick Prey has moved into a Captain role.
Lenzner said he is still holding onto some of the duties that he had as Chief Deputy, while also doing the duties of Sheriff. “I’m a hands on person, so some of those duties I will continue with, but we want people to do what they are comfortable with and what they are good at.”
Lenzner said he is going to continue some of the good things that were going in the county. “We are going to continue to work with the townships and villages, and we need to be everywhere.”
Meanwhile, former Sheriff Adam Bieber made a post on his Facebook page stating that he is retiring from law enforcement after 23 years. He says his new path is less stressful, slower and allows more time for family. He said his family recently moved to Coleman where he and his wife Amy both grew up and they are closer to family and friends. “We are enjoying our new home in the country,” he said.
He also said he is not just giving up on all he fought for. “I still plan to fight for our Bill of Rights, speak out on important policies, laws and other challenges that face the American people.”
