MADISON, WI- Wisconsin’s statewide test scores show the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on learning. The Department of Public Instruction released the standardized test results from last year Thursday, and they are not good. Less than 40 percent of Wisconsin students are proficient in reading, writing, or math. While math scores did increase slightly, reading and writing scores fell. Last year’s results are well below the test scores from before the pandemic shut down schools and sent kids to learn from home. State officials say there are “signs of recovery” but education watchdogs say it’s hard to make that case when 60 percent of students can’t read, write, or add at grade level.
