KANSAS CITY, MO- The man accused of killing two Shawano County brothers in 2019 is expected to plead guilty, according to federal court documents.
Garland Nelson is charged with the murders of Nick and Justin Diemel of Shawano County, and was scheduled to go on trial early next year.
“Nelson is anticipated to enter a guilty plea to those counts within the next two days. Should that guilty plea not occur, the United States would request this Court re-issue the Writ of Habeas Corpus Ad Prosequendum in advance of trial scheduled.”
The signed order allows Nelson to be transferred from federal custody to state custody.
In 2019, the two brothers went missing after a business trip to Missouri, and it was later determined that the remains that were identified as the brothers were found on the farm property owned by Garland Nelson.
According to Police records, the Diemel brothers were at Nelson’s farm last July of 2019 to collect money that was owed to them. The bodies were burned and hidden in a manure pile, according to reports from the investigation.
Nelson is facing the death penalty, but entering a guilty plea would likely result in a plea agreement that would take that option off the table.
