SHAWANO, WI- Judge William Kussel ordered a warrant for the arrest of Ann Retzlaff after she did not show up for court on Tuesday.
Retzlaff, owner of Annie’s Campground in Gresham is facing charges of eluding and resisting police.
According to the police report, police attempted a traffic stop for failure to stop at a traffic light back in May, but Retzlaff allegedly refused to pull over and was later arrested. Police reported using stop spikes, and flattening her tires to get her out of the vehicle. According the report, Retzlaff said she did nothing wrong and accused the officer of wrongly stopping her, stating she is a sovereign citizen and would not get out. It was reported that when the officer tried to open the door, she allegedly drove away, forcing two officers to move out of the way.
Officers eventually caught up with the vehicle and broke a window to get her out. The records also state that Retzlaff told officers that she did not stop because she was rescuing an employee from sex traffickers.
Retzlaff was scheduled for court on October 5, but she reported that she was ill. The date was rescheduled for Tuesday with a requirement to attend in person, according to court records. The start of the hearing was even pushed back because the day was backlogged and started nearly two hours after the scheduled time. Retzlaff was still not in the courtroom at that time, so a bench warrant was issued.
