Richard D. Spice, age 77 of Shawano, passed away Saturday evening, October 16, 2021 at his home with his loved ones at his side.
Richard was born November 9, 1943 in New London, a son of the late Percy and Erna (Van Den Elsen) Spice. He attended school in New London. Following high school, Richard served in the United States Air Force and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army. Richard was a military policeman until becoming a medic. He went on to become a Green Beret in the Special Forces. Richard served 17 years in the Army, with a total of 21 years in the military before retiring in 1981.
Following his retirement, Richard worked at the Kemper Military School in Boonville, MO where he was the school medic and Assistant Commandant. He also worked as a policeman in Boonville before returning to Shawano in 1988. Richard was an avid hunter, fisherman, painter, and musician. He also loved riding his Harley. He was a member of the Fox Valley Muzzle Loaders where he enjoyed going on many rendezvous with his fellow buck skinners.
Survivors include his loving wife, Linda Spice of Clintonville; his daughters, Amber (Robert) Allison, Laura (Robert) Williams; his step-children, Troy (Bridgette) Popp, Lucas (Toni) Hacker, Tom (Dani) Moon, Jason (Sarah) Moon, and Elizabeth (Chris) Tassone; fifteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Shane Spice, and one sister, Diane Spice.
A time to remember and celebrate the life and legacy of Richard will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following, with military honors provided by Shawano AmVets Post #10.
