SHAWANO, WI- Charlies County Market in Shawano is holding special hours for elderly shoppers and those with handicaps.
Management says only those people will be allowed in for the first hour of the business day three days a week.
Beginning on Thursday, March 19, the store will be to those customers from 7:00 am to 8:00 am on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Store Management says this will help the needs of these shoppers during these challenging times.
General Manager Kelly Sufka says they have been busy the last week and have been working to keep up with the demand for items that are flying off the shelves.
“Disinfectant wipes, bleach, hand sanitizer and we are ordering, it is just a matter of our suppliers getting it to us.”
Sufka, who has been in the grocery business since 2011 said she has never seen shopping at this level.
“Our meat manager said he reminds his of the days after 911.
Of all the things flying off the shelves, she says one thing still puzzles her.
“I still don’t understand the toilet paper, I really don’t.”
Since Governor Evers closed down schools, Sufka says other items are becoming popular. She says people are clearing them out of easy to make meals that they may be stocking up on for their kids.
“Spaghettios, cans of tuna, Raman noodles and we have been going through tons of pasta and ground beef.”
It is assumed that people are stocking up on items in case they cannot get to a store for weeks at a time. Sufka says for now they keep working on keeping the shelves full.
“We have brought in some extra people to help stock and I have called in some extra checkers and baggers as well, she said. “I can see it slowing down a little. It started on Thursday and just started slowing down earlier this week.”
