Race Teams Entertain and Raise Money for Cancer
There a couple of nights where the action on the track takes second stage to the events going on at the
track. Last night, Racing for a Reason took center stage as the amazing fans and race teams worked
together to raise money for Childhood cancer. Once again, the community came in full support and we
can’t wait to see what was raise.
The IMCA Stock Cars hit the track first with Kurt Olson grabbing the early lead. Mike Schmidt, driving the
57 car in memory of Mark Mitchell, moved to second an began to chase down the Olson machine on lap
6. Chummy Arneson, Jeremy Christians and Dan Michonski would all join the battle for the lead. Schmidt
would grab the lead on lap 13 with Bert Moede joining the top group as well. On lap 19 Michonski slid
into second and put the pressure on Schmidt. Michonski would sneak by Schmidt at the line by about 6
inches for the win. Arneson, Olson, and Moede completed the top 5.
The IMCA Sport Mods rolled on track with Karah Taycher and Max Oreskovich on the front row. Taycher
would grab the early advantage only to have Brock Saunders grab the point on lap 3. Saunders would
not let go of the top spot despite a couple caution flags slowing action. Jayden Schmidt would move to
second and pressure Saunders but a lap 15 spin would send the Schmidt machine to the back of the
pack. Teagan Wudstruck grabbed second with Jordan Bartz, Jeffery Teske and Matthew Radtke finishing
in the top 5.
The Late Model division saw Tom Naeyaert grab the lead from Joel Bennett on lap 3 and begin to pull
away from the pack in the first half of the race. Troy Springborn and Nick Anvelink began to work
different lines on the track and began to reel in Naeyaert. Lap traffic would slow Naeyaert’s pace
enough that Springborn snuck passed for the lead on lap 9. Springborn looked like he would cruise to
victory but Anvelink had other plans as he tracked down Springborn and grabbed the lead for good on
lap 16. Springborn, Ron Berna and Justin Ritchie would follow across the line.
The IMCA Modifieds racing for extra money and no track points Mark Weisnicht grab the lead from his
front row starting spot and never give it up. Marcus Yarie would move into second and keep the
pressure on Weisnicht the entire feature race but not have enough to get around him, Yarie would finish
second. Lucas Lamberies came from a 12th starting spot to grab third with Jason Czarapata and Lance
Arneson rounding out the top 5.
Brad Wedde would take the lead on lap 3 of the Mighty 4’s feature with Jason Cornelius giving chase.
Cornelius would grab the lead on lap 6 only to have Wedde take it right back the following lap. Wedde
and Cornelius would lead the field to the checkered flag with Jason Stueck and Keving Bice following
behind.
