Eugene R. Martin, age 78 of Crivitz, formerly of Clintonville, passed away early Friday morning, August 25, 2017, at his home.
Eugene “Gene” Roland Martin was born August 14, 1939 in Shawano to the late Roland & Hildegard (Haut) Martin. Gene graduated from Bonduel High School in 1957 and joined the U.S. Army to serve his country as a radio intercept operator. His service allowed him to travel to many different countries in Europe. Gene literally “fell” in love with his future wife, Sharon Vollmer, as they met when he fell on her while roller skating. The couple was later united in marriage on December 15, 1962 at Christus Lutheran Church, Clintonville, where he was a current member. They continued living in Clintonville and then Bear Creek for many years. Gene worked at Urban Telephone for a time, and later at First Wisconsin Computer Center until his retirement after 22 years; never missing a day of work except the day his son was born. Gene and Sharon traveled together often, going on cruises to the Caribbean and fishing trips to Canada; they also loved spending their winters in Inglis, FL. Around 2005, the couple moved to Crivitz where they have lived since. In his younger years, Gene was a big fisherman, hunter, & loved snowmobiling; more recently, Gene enjoyed being outdoors and experiencing the northwoods of Wisconsin on the back of an ATV. He also enjoyed watching his game shows: The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune, & Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Gene was proud of his family and always eagerly introduced family members to people he would meet. He will be remembered as a kind, quiet man who was always ready with a joke. Gene loved his family very much and he will be missed.
