Vernon A. Stuewer, age 83, of Bonduel, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017, with his family by his side, after a three year battle with esophageal cancer. Vernon was born in the Town of Hartland on November 25, 1933, son of the late Harry and Dora (Priem) Stuewer. Vernon graduated from Bonduel High School in 1951 and was drafted into the United States Army. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned home, and on September 10, 1960 he was united in marriage to Gladys Ness at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pulaski. Vernon worked as a forklift operator for Fort Howard Paper Company for nearly 30 years. He enjoyed bowling and in 1978 he won the Green Bay Press Gazette Bowling Tournament and in 2001 was inducted into the Shawano Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed polkas and baseball and was a pitcher in his younger years. He could not catch fish. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and loved holidays with his family.
Vernon is survived by: his wife of 56 years, Gladys; three children, Laurie (Kirk) Rademaker of Kaukauna, Gary (Jacqueline) Stuewer of Oshkosh, and David (Charlene) Stuewer of Shawano; eight grandchildren, Timothy (Jennifer) Rademaker, Quintin Rademaker, Marsaide Rademaker, Jeffrey Rademaker, Desmond Rademaker, Madeline Stuewer, Henry Stuewer, and Grace Stuewer; two great grandchildren, Zakadia and Zakai; a sister, Ardis (Virgil) Nau of Merril; his lifelong friend Dennis Fink; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Clarence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Friedens Ev. Lutheran Church in Bonduel with Rev. Virgil Hanson officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and again on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of the service.
