The Shawano Optimist Club and Shawano Community High School recognized 141 students for Academic Achievements. The annual Shawano Optimist Scholastic Awards Banquet is a chance to give credit to the students who are paving the way academically in their class. To be included in the event, students must rank in the top 25 individuals in cumulative GPA or be in the top 25 of their class in the most recent semester grade. Shawano Principal Scott Zwirschitz said this gives more students more opportunities.
“This way not only students who have achieved well historically are honored, but the students who have done well in the most recent semester are honored as well” said Zwirschitz. “It is the goal of the Optimists to honor as many individuals as possible.”
The grade point average of the 25th student is rounded to the next lower one tenth of a grade point, and all students ranking in between are included. 43 Freshman qualified along with 31 Sophomores, 35 Juniors and 32 Seniors.
Guest Speaker Jon Aumann challenged the students to continue to strive for excellence and become a leader.
18 Seniors were recognized for being a Four Year Academic Scholar.
