Scott Cook has the chance to make New London wrestling history on Saturday. The Bulldog Senior can become the school’s first ever State Champion. On Friday, Cook won two matches, including a 9-3 win over Jarett Dolata of Mauston in the State Semifinals. Cook made his statement early with two big takedowns to take control and walked away with the chance to secure his dream.
“Just gotta keep pushin” Cook said.
After claiming a Sectional title on Saturday, Cook said the first goal was to make the finals, but wanted to take it slow.
“I have looked ahead the last three years, and that did not go well for me” said Cook. “This year, I want to take it one at a time.”
Cook will wrestler Ryan Hannah of Viroqua. Hannah is a defending State Champion after winning the 132 pound state title last year.
A win on Saturday night would be the exclamation point on the Seniors season after becoming the all-time win leader in school history earlier this year.
In Division 2, three two-time champions return to the finals in hopes of winning a third State title. Eyes will be on Brock Bergelin (36-1) of Denmark at 120, Sam Stuhl (45-0) of Ellsworth at 132 and Devin Bahr (37-0) of West Salem/Bangor at 152.
Bryce Bosman (45-3) of Luxemburg-Casco at 113, Ryan Hannah (47-2) of Viroqua at 138, and Nate Trepanier (45-1) of Oconto Falls at 160 are all competing for a second State title.
Unbeaten wrestlers in the field include Dustin Hatfield of River Valley (40-0) at 126 and Lucius Rinehart of Evansville/Albany (36-0) at 195.
