The first Native American to join a NASA space mission will be visiting the College Monominee Nation on Friday. John Herrington will be visiting with students and giving a presentation that will begin at 2 p.m. in the Cultural Learning Center in Keshena.
Herrington is a member of the Chickasaw Nation and is a former Navy aviator. He was a member of the 2002 Shuttle Endeavor mission to the International Space Station and since his retirement, he has been working as an ambassador to American Indian youth on the importance of education and opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math.
Students that are hoping to earn a degree in the STEM studies will also have a chance to meet privately with Herrington before the presentation.
